Soccer bad, football good, Bangkok hot...

Just back from Bangkok where I picked up the last of the ingredients needed to give this joint a proper opening.

About Bangkok: It's hot. Stinkin' hot. And it stinks as a sports town.

Oh, sure, everywhere I went there was some sort of soccer game on the telly. Unfortunately, I've grown accustomed to that living here in Europe. Aside from the World Cup, where wars have had less importance on the global stage, soccer is completely awful to watch. This is why people often die at these matches -- boredom.

When are they finally going to make the game more interesting by allowing players to use their hands?!

But because I am interested in making this a relevant, timely sports site, I will report to you that 87.8% of the soccer games currently under way, are deadlocked, 0-0. And another yellow card just came out -- whatever that means.

So, no, I won't be serving up much soccer in the Grill Room. Rest assured, I will never call it football, either.

What you will find here is a menu of some of the best opinion from some of the best columnists in the world of sport. The spicier the better.

Even if newspapers are dying thanks to this new generation of tweets, and the older generation of greed, there are still plenty of great sports writers churning out winning copy each day. They will get their due kudos here.

So bring an appetite and some attitude. Look forward to serving you.

  2. Having spent time recently in Canada and USA you might find you are a little more out of step with mainstream North American Sports Journalist (old white blokes) opinion which seems to be more football savvy each time i visit.

Loving sport is also a cultural thing- I sort of got gridiron near the end of my last visit having hung out in some sports bars. Do you not like Germany as a country?
